A study of problems and health needs of the elderly in Doi Hang Subdistrict Municipality Area, Muang District, Chiang Rai Province
Abstract
This article aims to study the health problems and needs of the elderly and proposes a model of care, promotion and development of the elderly's quality of life with Thai Traditional Medicine in the area of Doi Hang Subdistrict Municipality, Mueang District, Chiang Rai Province. This study was a qualitative research. The data were collected by reviewing textbook and documentary research related to elderly health problems and health care requirement by Thai traditional medicine and also using a focus group method to extract community health experiences from the elderly of Pga K'nyau, Akha, Muser, Lisaw, Chinese Haw and Lanna natives, numbering 120 people, as well as 15 Doi Hang Municipality administrators and 15 professional Thai traditional medicine doctors working in the area. The health problems of the elderly consisted of 3 groups: congenital disease problems illness problems and mental health problems while health needs of the elderly consisted of 2 groups: the need for access to proactive health services in the community; and the need for health self-reliance with local wisdom the model of care, promotion and development of the quality of life of the elderly was proposed following the health care culture of the area with diverse ethnicities in the Doi Hang Sub-District Municipality area, divided into 2 activities as follow: (1) community mobile clinic activity, (2) activities to promote health and improve the quality of life of the elderly with Thai traditional medicine in the community
