Background and Objectives: Developing the spirit of teacherhood should be promoted through teacher education programs and educational policies to cultivate teachers who possess comprehensive knowledge, professional competence, and a strong spirit of teacherhood. Such development is expected to contribute to the sustainable enhancement of the quality of Thai education in the future. This academic article aims to present the concepts and significance of the spirit of teacherhood and to analyze the relationship between the spirit of teacherhood and the enhancement of educational quality at the primary education level.
Methodology: This study employed a documentary analysis and thematic synthesis approach. Teachers play a crucial role in shaping the learning environment, cultivating learners’ attitudes and core values, and serving as role models in their daily lives. Therefore, integrating the spirit of teacherhood into learning management and professional teacher development is essential for improving the overall quality of education. For primary school teachers, the spirit of teacherhood is a professional virtue that must be both cultivated and sustained. Cultivating the spirit of teacherhood involves earning learners’ respect and trust while constructing meaningful knowledge and learning experiences that promote students’ intellectual growth and holistic development.
Results: Cultivating respect requires teachers to serve as exemplary role models in both conduct and professional practice. Building trust involves fostering learners’ confidence in teachers through integrity, responsibility, and consistent professional behavior. Constructing knowledge refers to designing meaningful learning experiences that enable learners to recognize teachers’ expertise and support their own learning potential. Sustaining the spirit of teacherhood requires teachers to preserve compassion by providing continuous care and guidance for learners, as well as maintaining a spirit of self-sacrifice by dedicating themselves to students’ well-being despite challenges or difficulties. The spirit of teacherhood is therefore an indispensable foundation for enhancing educational quality at the primary education level. Contemporary teachers must continuously internalize professional values and adapt their instructional practices to meet the developmental needs of primary school learners while responding effectively to generational changes and diverse learning contexts.
Conclusion: The spirit of teacherhood is a fundamental factor in promoting and sustaining educational quality, particularly at the primary education level. It encompasses the meaning, significance, essential components, and core professional roles that deeply shape the identity of primary school teachers. Furthermore, strengthening the spirit of teacherhood through systematic professional development is a vital approach to enhancing educational quality, fostering learners’ holistic development, and supporting the long-term advancement of primary education.
