Model for Agricultural Vocational Skill of Development Youth People in Khammouane Province, Lao People's Democratic Republic
Abstract
This research aimed to: 1) study the current state of agricultural vocational skills development; 2) examine the factors influencing the effectiveness of agricultural vocational skills development; and 3) construct an agricultural vocational skills development model for youth in Khammouane Province, Lao People's Democratic Republic (Lao PDR). This study employed a Mixed Methods Research design, encompassing both quantitative and qualitative approaches, divided into three phases. The sample for Phases 1 and 2 consisted of 230 youths aged 18-24 in the target districts of Khammouane Province. Data were collected using questionnaires and analyzed using frequency, percentage, mean, standard deviation, Pearson's correlation coefficient, and Multiple Regression Analysis. For Phase 3, the target groups comprised 14 experts for a focus group discussion and 5 experts for the model evaluation. The research instruments used were focus group recording forms and a model suitability and feasibility evaluation form.
The research findings revealed that: (1) The overall current state of agricultural vocational skills development for youth in Khammouane Province was at a high level ( = 4.10, S.D. = 0.63). (2) All 5 influencing factors had a significant positive effect on the effectiveness (p < 0.05), collectively predicting 62.0% of the variance (R²Adj = .620). Ranked by predictive power from highest to lowest, these factors were: Curriculum Quality (β = .301), Appropriate Technology (β = .275), Learning Environment (β = .200), Youth Motivation (β = .156), and Learning Management Methods (β = .118). (3) The developed vocational skills development model demonstrated overall suitability at the highest level ( = 4.59, S.D. = 0.39) and overall feasibility for practical implementation at the highest level ( = 4.47, S.D. = 0.27). This indicates that the model is highly efficient and appropriate for practical application to enhance the occupational skills of youth.
