Abstract

Research on the development of augmented reality media to revive the carved background images in Phanom Rung Stone Castle aims to: 1) Decode the wireframe of the carved background images in Phanom Rung Stone Castle. 2) Design and develop augmented reality media integrated with the carved background images in Phanom Rung Stone Castle. 3) Study the satisfaction of a sample group after using augmented reality media. This research utilizes a mixed-methods approach, starting with qualitative research and progressing to design research.

The research findings indicate that the castle perimeter features a total of 33 lintels, comprising 14 adorned with intricate carvings and 19 lacking any carved patterns. In this research, our emphasis is on the examination of lintels adorned with intricate carvings. Our intention is to provide a comprehensive analysis of the Narai Banthomsin lintel, delving into the intricacies of the damage across 11 parts as follows: 1) Narayana, 2) Lakshmi, 3) Brahma, 4) Anantanakaraj, 5) Makara, 6) Nak Kal, 7) Garuda Yudnaga, 8) Hassdilink bird holding an elephant, 9) Pair of parrots, 10) Monkey holding a child, and 11) Khankhot pattern. The work has undergone thorough examination and revision by seven experts who collaboratively assessed it. Their collective efforts led to a unanimous conclusion, affirming that the researcher's work unveils the hidden state of artistic perfection within the Narai Banthomsin lintel. This conclusion aligns seamlessly with the findings derived from meticulous surveys and comprehensive searches, supported by photographic evidence. Hence, it was incorporated into the virtual reality media development process and employed to distribute information to tourists visiting Prasat Hin Phanom Rung. A random sampling method was applied, involving 40 individuals who used the virtual reality media and provided feedback through an evaluation questionnaire. The results revealed that the sampled group exhibited the highest level of overall satisfaction. This suggests that the developed virtual reality media enables tourists to observe and comprehend the intact state of the lintel before its damage, effectively introducing novelty to the exploration of information related to carved lintel images in Prasat Hin Phanom Rung.
