Strategic Leadership of Mayor of Yala City Municipality

Abstract

         The objectives of this research were to study 1) key success strategies on administration management of Yala City Municipality’ s mayor, and 2) leadership-strategy characteristics according to the mayor of Yala city municipality. This independent study was a qualitative research ,which collecting data by using in-depth interview and focus group with 3 key informant groups ,which included the amount of 5 administrators, 5 municipality officers, and 5 stakeholders . The sample size was determined by using purposive sampling method. Data collection tools were interview questionnaire and focus-group question forms. The research data was checked by data triangulation method and analyzed by using inductive reasoning. 

         The results of the study stated that 1) the four outstanding strategies of Mayor of Yala city municipality in administering were conflict coordination and peace building strategy ,organizational administration strategy,  human resource development strategy , and city and economy development strategy.  There were seven projects which were outstanding and successful under the administration of Mayor of Yala city municipality included ASEAN Barred Ground Doves Competition project, Yala City Municipality Youth Orchestra project, religious relation project , Returning Yala to Yala people project ,Youth camp project for love and solidarity building for Yala City Branding ,and  Yala Marathon project. 2) The mayor of Yala city municipality contained the eight strategic leadership attributes: that were being vision role model for other officers, understanding the city context and local administration, having good knowledgeable and communication skill, being the developer and able to use information technology in the administration, having skillful in participatory management , having conflict coordination and management skill, and able to explore and solve the root of problems in a creative way.
