Citizen-Led Mechanisms for Local Development in Thung Saeng Thong Subdistrict Municipality Nang Rong District Buriram Province

Abstract

This research aimed to: 1) study the level of citizen-driven local development mechanisms in Thung Saeng Thong Subdistrict Municipality, Nang Rong District, Buriram Province; 2) compare the level of citizen-driven local development mechanisms in Thung Saeng Thong Subdistrict Municipality, Nang Rong District, Buriram Province, classified by personal factors ได้แก่ gender, age, educational level, and occupation; and 3) propose guidelines for improving the effectiveness of citizen-driven local development mechanisms in Thung Saeng Thong Subdistrict Municipality, Nang Rong District, Buriram Province. The sample size was determined using Taro Yamane’s formula, resulting in a total of 349 respondents. The research instruments consisted of four types: checklist, rating scale, open-ended questions, and interviews. The statistical methods used for data analysis included percentage, mean, standard deviation, and hypothesis testing. The research findings revealed that: 1) overall, the level was at a high level. When considering each aspect, it was found that infrastructure, public utilities, and public services were at the highest level, followed by natural resources, environment, and water resources; economic and agricultural aspects; and political, administrative, and service aspects, all of which were at a high level. Meanwhile, the quality of life and social aspect was at a moderate level. 2) The comparison of citizen-driven local development mechanisms classified by gender, age, and educational level showed no statistically significant differences, whereas occupation was the only factor that showed statistically significant differences in the level of participation. 3) It is recommended that information disclosure and monitoring and evaluation systems be transparent and accessible in order to enhance the effectiveness of local development mechanisms.
