Authorship and Contributor Policy

The Journal of Islamic Studies, Prince of Songkla University (JOIS), upholds internationally recognized standards of authorship to ensure appropriate academic credit, accountability, and transparency in scholarly publication.

Authorship attribution must accurately reflect individuals’ intellectual contributions to the research and manuscript. Improper authorship practices undermine research integrity and violate publication ethics.

1 Definition of Authorship

Authorship is reserved for individuals who have made substantial scholarly contributions to the conception, development, execution, and reporting of the research study.

All listed authors must be able to take public responsibility for the content of the work.

2 Authorship Criteria

To qualify as an author, individuals must meet all of the following criteria:

  • Significant contribution to the conception or design of the study, or acquisition, analysis, or interpretation of data
  • Participation in drafting the manuscript or critically revising it for important intellectual content
  • Approval of the final version prior to submission
  • Agreement to be accountable for all aspects of the work, including accuracy and integrity

Individuals who do not meet all criteria should not be listed as authors.

5 Acknowledgment of Contributors

Individuals who contributed but do not meet authorship criteria (e.g., research assistants, translators, technical staff) must be appropriately acknowledged.

6 Changes to Authorship

Requests to add, remove, or reorder authors after submission must be justified, require consent from all authors, and approval from the editorial office.

7 Authorship Disputes

Disputes must be resolved by the authors’ affiliated institutions. The journal may suspend processing until disputes are resolved.

8 Guest, Gift, and Ghost Authorship

The journal does not permit unethical practices such as listing individuals with minimal contribution (Guest/Gift) or omitting contributors who meet criteria (Ghost).

9 Disclosure of Funding and Conflicts of Interest

Authors must disclose all sources of funding and any financial or professional relationships that could influence the research.

10 Relationship to Publication Ethics

This policy operates within the broader framework of the journal’s publication ethics and aligns with international best practices.
