Abstract

The objectives of the present study were to investigate and analyze the possibilities of MICE business in Nakhon Phanom Province, and to study the readiness and guidelines for enhancing the potential of MICE business in the province in preparation for becoming a MICE city. The participants of the survey were MICE service providers from the private and government sectors, and agencies in related fields in Nakhon Phanom Province. Using the mixed-method research design, an in-depth interview was conducted to eight participants and 200 sets of questionnaires were administered to employees form seven hotels.  The results showed that the majority of the participants were female, aged between 25 - 34 years, holding a vocational certificate. Their working experience ranged between 1 - 5 years with a monthly income below 15,000 baht. According to the findings, it is highly advisable that MICE service providers ensure that meeting venues and facilities are in good condition and sufficiently available for users. Furthermore, the interview also reflected that Nakhon Phanom had the potential to be a MICE city; however, improvement in sufficient availability of accommodation, and venues, and public transportation are needed. Government agencies should illustrate strong determination in improving the province to become a MICE city with activities to attract more tourists, which is a way to increase income for the province.
