THE POLITICAL PUBLIC MIND OF THAI PARLIAMENT TELEVISION

Abstract

The objectives of this research were 1) to study Thai Parliament Television program formats and Thai Parliament Television program type for contents aimed at creating the political public mind and 2) to study the role of Thai Parliament Television in creating the political public mind. This was qualitative research. Data was collected from two groups of samples: 1) Thai Parliament Television’s 74 programs aired in 2023 were defined and then analyzed according to their formats, categories, and contents using coding sheets. 2) Key informants selected through purposive sampling consisted of 9 of the management and workers who worked for a minimum of 5 years using an in-depth interview form. The findings of this research were: 1) In 2023, the Thai Parliament Television aired 74 programs aimed to establish the political public mind. Most programs formats aired are Interview program, Documentary Program, News, Talk Program, Discussion program and Drama. The program’s content was knowledge, news, and current events. There is no entertainment related program. 2) The most important role of The Thai Parliament Television program was to be a medium for all political parties, be a politically neutral, to support the transparency and fair elections and promoting the people’s participation in political elections consequently.
