Abstract

This mixed methods intervention design research aimed to 1) examine competencies in caring for older adults with depression and approaches to enhance these competencies from stakeholders’ perspectives, 2) investigate the effectiveness of a simulation learning program, and 3) explore the outcomes and changes following their participation in the simulation learning program. The research findings were the caring competency for older adults with depression of knowledge, skills, and attribute. The experimental group's performance in caring for the elderly with depression after the experiment and the follow-up after the experiment 4 weeks was higher than the control group. There was a statistically significant statistical significance higher than the control group at the .01 level and the persistence after the end of the experiment was 1 month with statistical significance at the .01 level. The experimental group had a high level of performance change in all three competencies. Learners become self-aware and more attentive to other people.
