Abstract

Intrinsic motivation and extrinsic motivation for choosing the Athletics are first, the motivation to run is achievements, happiness, enjoyment, or acceptance from peers. If the youth performs well, and more experience, they will turn into the professional athlete. Then the youth would win competitions, succeed in competitions, and receive rewards. These things are positive reinforcements that build and increase effort for practice. Even though practice is very tiring, but athletes will endure hardships and boredom that may occasionally arise as a result of extensive practice. Persevering hard practice will improve the athlete’s abilities until he or she is very good and will be a champion. The motivation that comes from the positive feelings while playing sports is intrinsic motivation. The motivation that comes from acceptance from parents, coach, friends, the crowd’s cheer, and reward money are extrinsic motivation. The two types of motivation have different effects. Some athletes start with intrinsic motivation, but they have received a lot of extrinsic motivation, such as rewards, money, position, and applause. They might be more attached to extrinsic motivation. When the reward money is high, intrinsic motivation will decrease. It was found that most athletes who run have more extrinsic motivation than intrinsic motivation.
