Abstract

Suicide remains a serious public health problem found throughout the world. There have been
many studies into the causes leading to suicide. One of the main reasons for successful suicide is
suicidal ideation. In this article we aim to arrive at a better understanding of people with passive
suicidal ideation. We explore the meaning and definition of passive suicidal ideation; the concepts, theories, and factors related to passive suicidal ideation; the screening process for passive suicidal ideation; and the related psychotherapeutic processes. The insight so generated will be useful for practitioners and allow them to better understand and help people with passive suicidal ideation.
