The Study of Cognitive Function’s Incline in Mild Cognitive Impairment (MCI) Patients of Prasat Neurological Institute
Main Article Content
Abstract
Objectives: This research studied the incline of the cognitive function by comparing the Montreal
Cognitive Assessment - Thai Version (MoCA-Th) of MCI patients in the 1st and 5th year. Materials and methods: This is the retrospect study based on historical data from outpatient medicine record of the MCI patients who had continuous treatment at Prasat Neurological Institute and had score of MoCA-Th at the 1st and 5th year after treatment. The data of 68 samples was analyzed by descriptive statistics, t-test, and one-way ANOVA test. Results: The MoCA-Th score was not significantly different when classified by sex, age group and education level at the 1st year. At the fifth year, the MoCA-Th score was significantly different in the age group. Comparison of MoCA-Th score between the 1st and 5th year was
significantly different at .001 which the score of the memory, executive function, visuospatial, attention/concentration and orientation was reduce at the 5th year. The language function was also reduced but not significantly different. Conclusion: At the 5th year after treatment, the cognitive function was different in the age group, with the older would reduce than younger, the cognitive function could be further reduced, especially the memory, executive function, visuospatial and orientation. However, the
activities that promote cognitive function and decrease the cognitive decline in the elderly should be studied.
