Persistent Depressive Disorder in Adolescent: Role of School Psychologist

Abstract
Persistent depressive/Dysthymic disorder is one of the most common mental health problems in
adolescents, which may affect personality, lifestyle, study and relationships. Moreover, It may develops into other types of mental illnesses, such as major depressive disorder, bipolar disorder, self-harming and even to commit suicide. The school psychologists are very important role in the care system for students during adolescence. They should understand the symptoms and approaches to help with the application of psychological knowledge. This article aims to review and present knowledge about the persistent depressive disorder including definition, prevalence of the disease among adolescents, diagnosis causes and risk factors,
guidelines for effective treatment including drug utilization and psychotherapy and counseling. Thought, the roles of school psychologists for the benefit of both help adolescents with persistent depressive disorder with an efficient assistance process and become an effective school psychologist.
