The History of the Relationship between the Kingdom of Lanxang and Dai Viet from the Mid - Fourteenth to the Early Eighteenth Centuries

Abstract
This research article examines the history of relations between the Kingdoms of Lanxang and Đại Việt from the mid-fourteenth to the early eighteenth centuries, by studying and analyzing local sources, secondary sources and concerning Laotian and Vietnamese. The study found that in the course of four centuries, the Kingdoms of Lanxang and Đại Việt were in conflict as well as in political and economic alliances. However, after the Laotian Civil War in 1973, which led to the establishment of the socialist state, the Lao People’s Democratic Republic, the contemporary historiography of the regime primarily focused on the history of friendship and cooperation rather than the history of enmity, which served the official purpose of the regime’s collective engagement policy.
