Effectiveness of Corporate Social Responsibility of the Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand

Abstract

The research article aims to study 1) the significance levels and influences of the corporate social responsibility policies, the management of corporate social responsibility, culture of the organization, the participation of employees, and the effectiveness of corporate social responsibility by the Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand; and 2) the guidelines for creating a model for corporate social responsibility by the Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand. The study applied mixed-methods research approach. A sample group for quantitative approach was selected by way of stratified sampling and consisted of 300 employees from the Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand. The sample size was calculated using the criteria of 20 times the observed variables. The data were collected by employing a questionnaire and analyzed with a structural equation model. For qualitative approach, the data were collected by way of in-depth interviews with 10 key informants from the Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand including 1) Governor; 2) Deputy governors; and 3) Directors of Social Affairs. The findings are found as follows: 1) The corporate social responsibility policies, the management of corporate social responsibility, culture of the organization, the participation of employees, and the effectiveness of corporate social responsibility by the Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand are found to be at a high level; 2) The corporate social responsibility policies have the most influence on the effectiveness of corporate social responsibility, followed by the management of corporate social responsibility, culture of the organization, and the participation of employees, respectively; and 3) A model for corporate social responsibility consists of the following components: (1) corporate social responsibility policies, which must include content, goals, objectives; (2) the management of corporate social responsibility, which must include leadership, planning, and operation; (3) culture of the organization, which must include the operation’s nature and characteristics of employees; (4) the participation of employees, which must include collaborative decision-making, action, benefits, and assessment; and (5) the effectiveness of corporate social responsibility, which must include social activities, environmental activities, and economic activities.
