Effect of Managerial Skills of the Administrators of the Private Vocational Colleges in Southern Region on their Informational Technology Management Competency

Abstract
The objectives of this research were to study 1) the effect of managerial skills of the administrators of the private vocational colleges in Southern region on their informational technology management competency 2) guidelines for developing managerial skills and information technology management competency for the administrators of private vocational colleges in Southern region. This research employed quantitative and qualitative research methodologies. In the quantitative research part, the sample consisted of 157 directors, deputy directors, and division heads, obtained via simple random sampling. Data were collected with the use of a questionnaire. The statistics used to analyze the data was multiple linear regression. In the qualitative research component, in-depth interviews were conducted with 12 key informants including the chair of the Provincial Vocational Education, the director of Vocational Education Center in Southern Region, and directors, deputy directors and division heads of private vocational colleges in Southern region. Data were analyzed with content analysis.
The results of research were found that 1) the managerial skills of the administrators in the aspect of interpersonal relationship, thinking and decision making abilities, and technical skills had an effect on their informational technology management competency, with a .01 level of statistical significance 2) the guidelines for developing managerial skills and information technology management competency for the administrators of private vocational colleges included that the managerial skills in the aspect of thinking and decision making should be emphasized. The administrators needed to have a development plan, visions, and strategies so that they could adapt strategies in the management of the colleges and responded to the changes effectively. Moreover, the administrators needed to have systematic and analytical thinking skills and an ability to consider things holistically including themselves, their organizations, and their subordinates so that they could develop in respond to the visions of the colleges. Use of new technologies and innovations in management. They also needed to have an expertise in media, tools, and equipment selection and use them to assist and support people at work. This research can assist the administrators of the vocational colleges in Southern region to use their skills in the management in a maximum efficiency.
