Abstract

The objectives of the present study were to 1) compare the competitive advantage of precast concrete construction businesses classified by business characteristics, and 2) to examine the management and construction factors affecting the competitive advantage of the businesses. The competitive advantage factors investigated included low cost, differentiation, focus, and quick response. The participants included 251 medium-sized (n = 210) and large-sized (n = 41) construction business operators. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA), and multiple regression analysis. The findings revealed that the competitive advantage of precast concrete construction businesses in terms of differentiation varied significantly according to registered capital. In contrast, the competitive advantage in terms of cost, focus, and overall competitive advantage differed significantly by the number of employees. The correlation analysis showed that management factors, including planning, commanding, coordinating, and controlling, significantly influenced the competitive advantage of precast concrete construction businesses at a 0.01 level. Additionally, construction factors, such as machinery, materials, construction equipment, and construction processes, were found to have influences on the competitive advantage of these businesses at a 0.01 level.
