Abstract

Purpose of the study: This investigation intends to explore information seeking behavior of Thai generation Y travelers and their problems and barriers in searching for information.

Methodology: In this qualitative study, interviews were conducted with 30 Thai travelers, aged between 19 to 34.

Main findings: Analysis of the data reveals that the Thai generation Y travelers conduct their information search in 5 steps: identification of needed information, information seeking and access, information verification and evaluation, information organization and utilization, and search outcome assessment.  In regard to problems and berries in seeking information, it is reported that unavailability of English language websites in non-English speaking countries is the first barrier that provides the respondents with small chances to obtain needed traveling information. Besides, outdated touristic information on the websites is found to be the second barrier.

Applications of this study: Tourist business agencies and entrepreneurs and public traveling agencies can use these research findings for formulating tourist information model to respond to users’ needs and promote tourism.
