Artificial Intelligence (AI) Policy
Journal of Information Science Research and Practice (JISRaP)
Authors
Authors are fully responsible for the accuracy, originality, and completeness of their work before submitting the manuscript. Authors must carefully review and revise the manuscript to ensure that it is complete, meets academic standards, and complies with the journal’s publication ethics. Authors must also confirm that the manuscript does not infringe upon the rights of others and that all listed authors meet the proper authorship criteria.
JISRaP does not permit the listing of Generative AI (GenAI) systems as authors under any circumstances. AI cannot take responsibility for the accuracy of the work, cannot disclose conflicts of interest, and cannot enter into copyright or legal agreements; therefore, it does not meet the criteria for authorship.
Use of AI for Writing Content
Authors are prohibited from using GenAI tools to write any part of the manuscript, including:
- Abstract
- Introduction
- Literature Review
- Methodology
- Data Interpretation
- Discussion
- Conclusion
Manuscripts that are generated wholly or partially by GenAI tools such as ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, or other LLMs are considered to be in violation of this policy and will not be eligible for consideration.
Use of AI for Images and Figures
Authors are prohibited from using GenAI or AI-assisted tools to:
- Create images, diagrams, or visual materials
- Modify existing images
- Add, remove, move, or obscure elements within an image or figure
The use of AI image-generation tools may result in legal, ethical, and research integrity concerns; therefore, such use is strictly prohibited.
Use of AI for Statistical Reporting
Authors are prohibited from using GenAI to generate:
- Statistical values
- Data summaries
- Interpretation of research findings
All statistical content must be produced and verified solely by the authors.
Permitted Use of AI
Authors may use AI only for the following purposes:
- Language editing
- Improving clarity, grammar, spelling, and writing mechanics
- Assisting with rephrasing text that was originally written by the authors
Such use must comply with the following conditions:
- AI must not generate new academic content
- AI must not create new ideas, arguments, or interpretations
- Authors remain fully responsible for all content, even if language editing tools are used
AI Used as Part of Research Methods
If GenAI is used as part of the research process—such as in machine learning models, text mining, or NLP analysis—authors must:
- Clearly describe the use of AI in the Methodology section
- Provide reproducible details (e.g., tool name, version, parameters used)
- Include a “Declaration of GenAI Use” section
Full transparency is required.
Consequences of Undisclosed AI Use
If the editor discovers undisclosed or inappropriate use of GenAI—such as fabricated content, plagiarism, falsified data, manipulated images, or fabricated references—the manuscript may be rejected at any stage of the review process.
The editor’s decision is final.
Reviewers
Reviewers must not upload the submitted manuscript or any part of it into GenAI systems, as this may violate author confidentiality, infringe on unpublished intellectual property, and expose the manuscript to third-party processing.
Reviewers must provide expert, unbiased, and independent evaluations. GenAI cannot replace the academic expertise required for interpreting research methods, evaluating the rigor of findings, or assessing theoretical contributions.
Reviewers are responsible for the accuracy, fairness, and quality of their evaluation reports and must maintain confidentiality throughout the review process.
Editors
Editors must not upload the manuscript or any part of it into GenAI systems, as this may violate confidentiality and copyright protection.
The evaluation of manuscripts—including assessing novelty, methodological soundness, and scholarly contribution—requires human expertise and critical judgment. GenAI must not be used to support or make editorial decisions.
Editors are fully responsible for:
- Managing the editorial and review process
- Ensuring fairness and transparency
- Making the final publication decision
- Communicating decisions to authors
These responsibilities cannot be delegated to AI.
