Abstract

Objective: To investigate the feasibility and development of a Bachelor of Science program in clinical and community psychology that meets academic and professional standards Materials and methods: Exploratory sequential mixed methods design was employed in this study. In-depth interviews with 12 specialists in clinical and community psychology were performed initially in a qualitative phase utilizing a semi-structured interview. The results from the first phase were then used to design a questionnaire and gather data from 163 participants. The qualitative data was analyzed using the content analysis technique, while the quantitative data was analyzed using descriptive statistics such as frequency, percentage, mean, and standard deviation. Results: The qualitative content analysis revealed five main themes: 1) curriculum structure and course, 2) practical training, 3) qualifications of a future clinical and community psychologist, 4) activities to develop desired traits in twenty-first-century students, and 5) collaboration between curriculum and practice units. The quantitative analysis revealed that the majority of participants agreed on all themes, with the theme of practical training having the highest level of agreement. Conclusion and implications: The course structure and practical training for a Bachelor of Science degree in clinical and community psychology must meet professional standards by forming a long-term relationship between the curriculum and practice units. This entails organizing both on-and extra-curricular activities to support students in developing the required skills for the twenty-first century.
