Abstract

This article aimed to review and present concepts about Motivational Interviewing (MI). The authors reviewed such as textbooks, articles, and research. The scope of the article contained introduction to the motivational interviewing, such as concepts, goal, principles, spirit of MI, skills, technique, and resistance handling. MI is a person-centered approach which raising awareness and solving the current problems of clients by creating the ambivalence to change themselves and lead it to change decisions. The motivation interviewing is one of alternative approaches to apply in counseling process and also help people who need to change behavior. The last section of article provided an interesting article that can be good reference to do research.
