บุคคลย่อมมีเหตุผลในการตัดสินใจทางการเมืองอย่างใดอย่างหนึ่งในลักษณะที่จะทำให้ตนได้รับ ความพอใจสูงสุดภายใต้ระดับข้อจำกัดหนึ่ง การแสดงพฤติกรรมที่างการเมืองของบุคคลจึงตั้งอยู่บน พื้นฐานของการใช้เหตุผลในการตัดสินใจ ดังนั้นปัจจัยที่มีอิทธิพลต่อการตัดสินใจทางการเมืองคืออรรถประโยชน์ทางการเมืองการใช้สิทธิ์เลือกตั้งเป็นพฤติกรรมที่างการเมืองหนึ่งย่อมขึ้นอยู่กับ อรรถประโยชน์ทางการเมืองเช่นกัน อรรถประโยชน์ทางการเมืองเป็นสิ่งเร้าภายนอกตัวบุคคลที่เกิดจาก กิจกรรมทางการเมืองและ/หรือตัวแสดงทางการเมืองมีฐานคติจากทฤษฎี 4 ทฤษฎีได้แก่อรรถประโยชน์ทางการเมืองบนฐานคติทฤษฎีปัจจัยกำหนดอรรถประโยชน์ทางการเมืองบนฐานคติ ทฤษฎีจิตวิทยาอรรถประโยชน์ทางการเมืองบนฐานคติทฤษฎีการแลกเปลี่ยน และอรรถประโยชน์ทาง การเมืองบนฐานคติ ทฤษฎีความสำนึกเชิงเหตุผล
