Abstract

Background and Aims: The rapid expansion of e-commerce in Thailand has intensified the complexity of product return management, particularly for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) facing resource constraints. An efficient reverse logistics system not only helps control costs and maintain customer satisfaction but also serves as a critical mechanism facilitating the transition toward a circular economy. This study aims to examine the influence of four factor groups (1) technology and information systems, (2) process and policy, (3) human resources and organization, and (4) supply chain collaboration and relationships on reverse logistics efficiency in Thai e-commerce businesses, and to rank these factors by their relative importance.

Methodology: This quantitative survey research employed an online questionnaire distributed to 250 managers or personnel responsible for operations, logistics, or customer service in Thai e-commerce SMEs. Participants were recruited through convenience and snowball sampling. The instrument utilized a five-point Likert scale covering four independent variable groups and five perceived efficiency indicators. Multiple regression analysis was conducted for hypothesis testing. Due to the non-probability sampling method, the findings have limitations in generalizability to the broader population.

Results: All four factor groups demonstrated statistically significant positive effects on reverse logistics efficiency. Process and policy factors emerged as the strongest predictor (β = 0.352, p < .001), followed by technology and information systems (β = 0.284,
p < .001), human resources and organization (β = 0.267, p < .001), and supply chain collaboration (β = 0.198, p < .05). The model explained 42.3% of the variance in reverse logistics performance (R² = 0.423).

Conclusion: Enhancing process clarity and policy transparency, strengthening technological infrastructure, developing staff capabilities, and deepening supply chain partnerships all represent key approaches for improving reverse logistics efficiency in Thai e-commerce. These findings offer practical guidance for SME operators and inform policy directions for agencies promoting sustainable e-commerce development.
