Community Rights under Contract Farming System Case Study Tilapia Fish in Kalasin Province

This qualitative research aims to study community rights to access and manage resources under the contract farming system a case study of Tilapia Fish in Kalasin Province. The data was collected by in-depth interview with 30 households of farmers who have experience in contract farming system. The research showed that these farmers reacted with the system in different ways. Some farmers decided to give up their role in contract farming to emancipate themselves from the exploitation, while others tried to adjust to survive by negotiating. Regarding the rights to access and manage resources, farmers have changed agricultural and rights systems that have led to adaptation and negotiations in food production, land use, labor, income and employment and manage resources for the survival of the household. However, the strategies for living under the contract farming system of farmers are not all the same. It depends on the living capital, physical characteristics, resource utilization and economic limitations of each household.References
