The aim of this study is 1) to investigate the historical and cultural background of shamanic art in Shenyang and 2) to analyze the characteristics and forms of its cultural expression. A qualitative research methodology was used, including a literature review, on-site investigations and in-depth interviews with seven experts in cultural wisdom, cultural research and creative cultural industries. Content analysis was used to extract themes from the interviews.
The findings reveal that shamanic art in Shenyang, which was originally created by shamans practicing animistic beliefs, reflects a deep respect for nature, gods and ancestors through various art forms such as painting, sculpture and textiles. It integrates symbolic artistic techniques that convey deep spiritual and cultural meanings and represent the historical uniqueness of ethnic groups. Moreover, the art form not only preserves its traditional and simple roots, but also evolves to incorporate local cultural connotations, creating a dynamic flow of cultural knowledge that supports contemporary artistic innovation and development.
