Abstract

This research aimed to: (1) examine trends in consumer awareness, interest, and communication preferences regarding products of the Mon community in Khlong Sam Wa, and (2) develop and synthesize a community-branding approach grounded in cultural capital and community participation. A mixed-method case study design was employed together with a participatory research process. Quantitative data were collected through a voluntary online questionnaire from 24 respondents selected through convenience sampling. Qualitative data were obtained from 18 community informants, along with participatory discussions, interviews, observations, activity records, documents, and a community identity selection process. The data were analyzed using frequency, percentage, content analysis, and comparison across multiple sources.

Among the 24 questionnaire respondents, 75.0% had previously known the community products, while 45.8% had both known and purchased them. The most frequently selected purchase considerations were product stories or local wisdom (62.5%) and cultural distinctiveness (58.3%), while short-form video was the most preferred communication format (70.8%). The branding process generated six visual alternatives. The highest-ranked design received 57 points and incorporated the Mon hongsa, centipede flag, matad flower, and community name. The selected identity was subsequently refined and applied to community products. The findings were synthesized into a preliminary PNRU Community Branding Model comprising Participation, Narrative and Identity, Rebranding and Innovation, and Utilization for Sustainable Development. The model highlights the connection between consumer information, community-based validation of cultural meaning, and joint utilization of the brand. As the model was derived from a single case study, further application and evaluation in other community contexts are recommended.
