The development of reading for main idea skill of the students in Matthayomsuksa 3 at Damrongratsongkroh school, Chiang Rai Province.

Abstract

This independent study aimed 1) to create the lesson plans for reading for main idea, 2) to investigate the skill of reading for main idea and 3) to study the learning behaviors of reading for main idea of the students in Matthayomsuksa 3 at Damronratsongkroh School, Chiang Rai. The participants were 40 students studying in Matthayomsuksa 3 (Room 9) in academic year 1/2559. Five lesson plans created by using 9 questions technique, a set of reading for main idea test and the leaning behavior observation form were used as the research instruments to collect data. The data was analyzed by using percentage from the scores of pre-learning and post-learning and the data was finally presented in tables with description.


            The results revealed that;


  1. there were five lessons plans by using 9 questions technique in totally 5 hours (one lesson plan for one hour),

  2. after learning by using 9 questions technique, the students has the skill of reading for main idea in the different scores at 5.22 points or 26 percent and they all were passed, and

  3. the overall average of learning behaviors of reading for main idea of the students in Matthayomsuksa 3 was in good level at 2.82 percent. The highest average behavior was the ability to answer the questions followed by the narrative and conclusion, the content sorting and the summary of the content from reading, respectively.
