The Development of Democratic Ideological Values Youth in the 21st Century with Buddhist Principles

Abstract

The objectives of this research were 1) to investigate the development of democratic ideological for youth in the 21st century with Buddhist principles; 2) to create a model of democratic ideological values for youth in the 21st century with Buddhist principles; and 3) to present a manual on the development of democratic ideological values for youth in the 21st century with Buddhist principles (under Sappurisadhamma). This is a mixed-methods research. The sample group in this research consisted of 400 Thai youth aged between 15-25 years in educational institutions affiliated with the Upper Northeastern Province Group. The instrument used for data collection was a questionnaire. The 5-Likert scale questionnaire had an IOC value ranged between 0.67-1.00 and an overall confidence value of .89. 


The results showed that: 1) The development of democratic ideological values for youth in the 21st century with Buddhist principles (under Sappurisadhamma) are (1) Power belongs to the people, (2) Human rights, (3) Reason and tolerance, (4) Majority rule, (5) Consensus, and (6) Democratic process; 2) Based on the evaluation, the propriety and utility are at a high level. The development of democratic ideological values for youth in the 21st century with Buddhist principles (under Sappurisadhamma) consists of 6 elements and 19 indicators; and 3) A manual on the development of democratic ideological values for youth in the 21st century with Buddhist principles (under Sappurisadhamma) has the overall propriety at a high level. The aspect with the highest mean is the benefit from the manual implementation, followed by the feasibility aspect. The aspect with the lowest average is the design.
