The Building of Professional Learning Community for Phra Pariyattidhamma Teachers to Foster a Culture of Peace in the Classroom

Abstract
The research article consisted of the following objectives: 1) to analyze contexts, problems, needs, concepts, and the Buddhist peaceful means conducive to the building of professional learning community for Phra Pariyattidhamma teachers to foster a culture of peace in the classroom; and 2) to develop the building of professional learning community in order to foster a culture of peace in the classroom based on the Buddhist peaceful means for Phra Pariyattidhamma teachers at Wat Kritsana Weru Phuttharam (Phai Dam). The study employed action research method, in which the data were collected via in-depth interviews with 38 persons, focus group discussions with 6 persons, as well as a participatory action package of building a professional learning community using the AIC technique and an after action review (AAR) with 12 administrators and teachers. The obtained data were analyzed by inductive method.
From the study, the following results are found: 1) Problems with teaching and learning arrangements in diverse and complex dimensions of problems include an old-style classroom management that does not respond to learning requirements and changes in students in the modern period. The theories for solving problems include the building of a professional learning community that focuses holistically on students, as well as the Buddhist peaceful means that are conducive to the building of a professional learning community, such as Sārānīyadhamma (states of conciliation), Aparihāniyadhamma (conditions of welfare), Tisikkhā (the threefold learning), and Kalyāṇamittatā (good friend). 2) The building of professional learning community for Phra Pariyattidhamma teachers in order to foster a culture of peace in the classroom has resulted in a participatory action package based on Sārānīyadhamma and Aparihāniyadhamma. This entails two days of three activities and another one month of follow-up and evaluation. A body of knowledge gained from the study is called “'A.S., K.T. 3P: MODEL”.
