The Model for Development of Smart Phone Use by the Youth in the Digital Age in Nakhon Ratchasima by Buddhist Peaceful Means

Abstract
This research aims to 1) study and analyze the context, problem conditions, and concepts and theories for the development of smart phone use of the youth in the digital age according to modern science; 2) study and analyze Buddhist peaceful methods that contributed to the development of smart phone use of the youth in the digital age and 3) develop and present a model for development of smart phone use of the youth in the digital age in Nakhon Ratchasima by Buddhist peaceful means. This research article is research and development. The sample used in this study is a family of children aged 10 to 12 years from schools in Mueang Nakhon Ratchasima district, Nakhon Ratchasima province, with a total of 12 families, being selected by specific method from families whose parents voluntarily participated in the project and key informant groups selected by specific method. The tools used to collect data were 1. Interviews for collecting data for developing the model; 2. Tests for measuring knowledge and understanding before and after the training of the sample; 3. Behavior observation form for parents to record the smart phone use of the target group of children. Qualitative data analysis was done by categorizing the data and classifying issues according to research objectives, comparing, explaining, interpreting and drawing conclusions. Quantitative data were analyzed by basic statistics and reference statistics.
The results of the research revealed that 1. The problem of the smart phone use among the youth in the digital age is that smart phone is used for entertainment rather than for learning development, and their lack of digital skills and literacy negatively affects health, learning, and relationships with family members and society. 2. The Buddhist peaceful means that contributed to development of smart phone usage of the youth in the digital age are 4 Bhavanas, Yonisomanasikara, Paratoghosa and Brahmavihara. 3. The model for development of smart phone use by the youth in the digital age in Nakhon Ratchasima by Buddhist peaceful means is presentation of a curriculum for development of smart phone use including a scope of development in 6 areas called the "FIMDEC Model" consisting of family readiness (F), inner peace (I), media literacy (M), digital intelligence (D), and Empath (E) and communication and creativity (C).
