A Model for the Development of Prototype Facilitative Leaders for Peace by Buddhist Peaceful Means

Abstract

The academic article consisted of the following objectives: 1) to analyze problems of facilitative leaders as well as concepts and theories on the development of prototype facilitative leaders based on modern science; 2) to analyze the Buddhist peaceful means conducive to the development of prototype facilitative leaders for peace; and 3) to develop and present a model for the development of prototype facilitative leaders for peace by Buddhist peaceful means. The research employed research and development (R&D) method. The target group included 16 lecturer and educational personnel. The research tools included in-depth interview of 30 expert, focus group discussion of 13 expert, participant observation. The obtained data were analyzed by way of qualitative analysis to the objectives of the research.


From the study, it was found as follows:


1) The problems of facilitators nowadays reveal that the world is swiftly changing; all of which have prompted society to embark on a learning process aimed at inner development and the foundation of the mind. According to modern science, one role that can perform the learning process, and all learning facilitation is known as a 'facilitative leader.' However, the name usually causes confusion and lacks clarity in the role of a facilitative leader, including a lack of information on facilitative leader characteristics to be the facilitative leader of the quality process.


2) The Buddhist peaceful means conducive to the development of prototype facilitative leaders However, Trisikkhā comprising Adhisīla-sikkhā (training in higher morality), Adhicitta-sikkhā (training in higher mentality), and Adhipaññā-sikkhā (training in higher wisdom). The results will be demonstrate in Bhāvita (4 kinds of developed persons) including: outer development comprising Bhāvitakāya (one who has bodily development) and Bhāvitasīla (one who has moral development); and inner development comprising Bhāvitacitta (one who has mental development) and Bhāvitapaññā (one who has intellectual development).


3) A model for the development of prototype facilitative leaders for peace by Buddhist peaceful means called ‘F-A-M-S-U-K Model’ the development process in the following awakening, being mindful, and practicing, comprising the development process in the following 6 elements: (1) a facilitative leader; (2) forming attitudes; (3) building inner peace; (4) skills and tools; (5) an understanding of Buddhist peaceful means; and (6) the body of knowledge. The outcomes of a prototype facilitative leader for peace are awakening, moral behavior, mental stability, and honesty.
