Develop a Digital Database for Management towards the Buddhist Zero Waste Community under the Concept of Circular Economy

Abstract

This research article aimed 1) to study databases on waste management of Buddhist way zero-waste communities and 2) to develop databases on waste management of Buddhist way zero-waste communities into a digital form by studying from many documents and in-depth interviewing 27 community leaders and villagers from 9 zero-waste communities and then analyzing and synthesizing data according to the objectives.


The results showed that: 1) Databases on waste management of Buddhist way zero-waste communities consisted of 3 databases, including (1) the database on waste management of zero-waste communities, which was the database that reflect the overview of waste management of zero-waste communities in various aspects. For example, in the past, communities were affected from the waste issue. Then the communities decided to fix the waste problem and found the success, (2) the database on waste management of Buddhist way zero-waste communities was the database that reflected the Buddhist nature of Buddhist way zero-water communities that adopted Buddhist dhamma in their everyday life, such as the five precepts, honesty, perseverance, social responsibility, and unity, (3) the database on the knowledge set of waste management was the database that provide important knowledge for waste management, such as the 3Rs principles for waste management which were reduce, reuse, and recycle, and waste recycling activities such as transforming coffee packages into a hat. 2) Databases on waste management of Buddhist way zero-waste communities in the digital format consisted of 3 databases, including (1) the digital database on waste management of zero-waste communities, which was the databases that explained the waste management of zero-waster communities in a simple language with interesting topics along with pictures of activities in the communities to accompany the description. An example of the interesting topic is “Stories from the past: Waste problem was the force to drive the community development,” (2) the digital database on the knowledge about the mixed methods of waste management from the zero-waste communities was the database that compiled the waste-management methods from the strengths of each of the communities together, (3) the digital database on the format of Buddhist way zero-waste communities was the database that gave details about community development into a Buddhist way zero-waste community through the application of Trisikkha (three-fold training) principles in their activities. This digital database was uploaded to the digital platform, https://www.bcgbymcu.com.
