Community Strengthening Through Culture of Peace of Tai Doeng Ethnicity in Nakhon Ratchasima Province

Abstract

The research article consisted of the following objectives: 1) to analyze context, history, culture, traditions, present states and problems of coexistence; 2) to analyze the culture of peace; and 3) to present community strengthening through culture of peace of Tai Doeng ethnicity in Nakhon Ratchasima Province. The following tools were used in the study to conduct participatory action research: interviews, participatory observation, focus group discussions, appreciation influence control (AIC), SOAR analysis, and after action review (AAR). The target group included 1) 33 key informants and 2) 40 members of Tai Deng Ban Prasuk Community.


From the study, the following results are found: 1) Baan Pra Suk Tai Doeng community has been settled and has been shaped by Buddhist beliefs, giving it good cultural capital e.g., Hae Phra Mai tradition, Loy Krathong tradition, Gone Phom Fai tradition, etc. Currently, there are problems with differing political perspectives, generation gaps, and a lack of participation in co-thinking, co-doing, and co-resolving community problems. 2) The culture of peace based on participation refers to as well as the lesson learned from model community. The Dhammas that should be applied with Baan Pra Suk Tai Doeng community are: (1) Diṭṭhi-sāmaññatā; (2) Sīlasāmaññatā; (3) to hold regular and frequent meetings; (4) and in unison meeting. 3) Community strengthening through the culture of peace consists of two phases: (1) Creating a conceptual framework for activities that emphasize participation; and (2) Activities that raise awareness among villagers and youth, allowing them to see the strengths and weaknesses of community that should be developed in order for them to be proud of their hometown and activities for community empowerment. A committee should be established in order to mobilize the strong community in accordance with the vision, mission, and rules, resulting in a physical, social, mental, and intellectual strength until the ‘Tai Doeng Model’ is achieved.
