The Strategy of Integrated Buddhist Social Development for Sufficiency on the basis of Driving according to Pracharat Approach

Abstract

The objective of this research was to synthetize the strategy of an integrated Buddhist social development for sufficiency on the basis of driving according to Pracharat approach. This research area was Nakhon Sawan province. This study was an applied research which consisted of documentary research, in-depth interviews with 125 key informants, 4 focus group discussions with 45 persons and an action research with 750 participants. TOWS Matrix analysis for the synthesis of the strategy and data analysis techniques were used.


The results of the research revealed as follows: Strategy 1: The development according to Dhamma practice consisted of 1) promoting lifelong learning; 2) promoting the continuation and inheriting; 3) promoting the conservation of local wisdom; and 4) promoting the power to drive the community Strategy 2: Contemplative development comprised 1) promoting the practice of Vipassana in all areas; 2) promoting the Dhamma Land and Golden Land project; 3) promoting the power of the network of volunteers and the public mind; and 4) promoting the development according to principles of contemplative development. Strategy 3: Lifelong learning consisted of 1) building an agricultural garden based on Buddhist agricultural theory; 2) collecting knowledge and cultural evidence; 3) collecting local knowledge and wisdom; 4) allocating public areas for community learning exchange; and 5) building an anti-drug sports field in the temple. Strategy 4: Coexistence in a multicultural society consisted of 1) organizing activities to enhance consciousness and responsibility in the community; 2) building a set of knowledge about a multicultural society; 3) organizing activities to promote love, unity, reconciliation. For development according to the principle of coexistence in a multicultural society. Strategy 5: Driving the sub-district people training unit consisted of 1) building consciousness of adequacy and moderation; 2) building consciousness of reasonableness based on contemplativeness; 3) building physical, mental and social immunity; and 4) developing vocational knowledge.
