Mr. Development of Problem-Solving Ability of Higher Vocational Diploma Students Using STEM Education Combined with the Philosophy of Sufficiency Economy

Abstract

The purposes of this research were to 1) construct and develop lesson plans based on STEM education combined with the philosophy of sufficiency economy on the topic of Valves in Pneumatics of higher vocational diploma students to meet the efficiency of 80/80, 2) compare students’ problem-solving ability and learning achievement before and after the intervention, and 3) examine students’ satisfaction toward the constructed learning management. The sample, selected through cluster random sampling, consisted of 20 students from higher vocational diploma students, Technology and Business Administration Udonthani College, Mueang district, Udon Thani province, in the second semester of the academic year 2020. The instruments included 1) lesson plans based on STEM education combined with the philosophy of sufficiency economy, 2) a problem-solving ability test, 3) a learning achievement test and 4) a satisfaction questionnaire. The statistics comprised percentage, mean, standard deviation, and t-test for Dependent Samples. The research findings were as follows: 1) The efficiency of the lesson plans based on STEM education combined with the philosophy of sufficiency economy on the topic of Valves in Pneumatics was 80.15/81.25, which met the defined criteria of 80/80, 2) the problem-solving ability and learning achievement of students after the intervention was higher than that of before at the .01. level of significance., and 3) The satisfaction of students toward the developed instructional management was at the highest level.
