The Organic Farming by Way of Khok Nong Na Model: A Model of Peaceful Community of Baan Thumkob, Na Khao Subdistrict, Khao Phanom District, Krabi Province

Abstract

The research article consisted of the following objectives: 1) to study the context of organic farming of Baan Thumkob community; 2) to study the concepts and importance of organic farming by way of Khok Nong Na model for enhancing a peaceful community of Baan Thumkob community; and 3) to propose the guidelines for enhancing a peaceful community of Baan Thumkob community. The study applied a qualitative research method with data collection by way of dialogue and in-depth interviews. The acquired data were analyzed and presented descriptively. 


            The results of the study are shown as follows: 1) The Baan Thumkob village is an old community where most people work in agriculture. Some families are confronted with arable land constraints, water resource management problems in agriculture, and low agricultural product prices despite high production costs; 2) The community has applied the sufficiency economy philosophy or new theory agriculture in agriculture. The community is administered on the basis of self-sufficiency, and there is also a reduction in chemical use, the use of water banks and rice banks, the use of environmentally friendly organic farming based on the Khok Nong Na model, the establishment of community mills, and community shops to promote self-sufficiency; 3) The enhancement for a peaceful community of Baan Thumkob resulted from the community's people being self-reliant. This includes being aware of and addressing life problems according to Ariyasacca (the Four Noble Truths), learning and developing life according to Bhāvanā (development), and training one’s body to be ready for working with appropriate behavior, cheerful mind, lastly having wisdom to comprehend life difficulties according to Iddhipāda (the Four Paths of Accomplishment). Furthermore, people should be required to give affection and perseverance in their job, as well as pay attention to and scrutinize problems, in order for the community to have generosity and peaceful coexistence.
