Current Conditions and Expectations Towards Sustainability Management of Alumni Associations in Higher Education Institutions

Abstract

The purpose of this research was to study the current condition. and expectations towards sustainable management of alumni associations in higher education institutions. This study is the mix method research by conducting an in-depth interview to study the sustainability management condition of the alumni association in higher education institutions from 5 experts, after that analyzing the data to find the need for sustainability management of the alumni association in the higher education institution by using the Modified Priority Needs Index (PNI). The participants were 400 samples, consisting of 100 executive officers, faculty members and staff, 100 students studying in the fourth year, and 200 alumni. The research instruments were the need assessment questionnaire with the confidence value of 0.894 and the in-depth interview questions. The statistics used to analyze the data are mean, Priority Needs Index, and content analysis.


The results from the in-depth interviews on sustainable management of alumni associations in higher education institutions, the management consists of strategy, structure, systems, style, personnel, skills, and shared values. From the ranking of essential needs with the highest PNI in strategy aspect, it was found the association analyzes the environment to find weaknesses and strengths and the association has a strategic plan that promotes management for sustainability. On the structure aspect, the association has a management structure that is appropriate for the sustainability management. On the system aspect, the association has a clear management system to support sustainability. On the style aspect, the executives of the association have the clear review of operations and results of operations in all aspects. On the personnel aspect, the association provides opportunities for personnel and relevant people at all levels to take part in helping drive the work to achieve the goals. On the skills aspect, there is continuous training and review of personnel's performance. And on the shared values aspect, the association has a system that arises and used as a guideline for determining the participation behavior of personnel in the association.
