A study on Conditions of Problems Needs and Positive behavior intervention and Support for Students with Behavioral Problems an Inclusive School

Abstract

The research article consisted of the following objectives: 1) to investigate the conditions and needs for positive behavioral support; and 2) to explore the positive behavioral support approach for students with behavioral problems in inclusive schools. The study used a qualitative research method, with the target group consisting of administrators, educational personnel, and multidisciplinary specialists, totaling 12 people who were chosen based on the specified criteria. The research instruments were the points and structured interview recording form. The obtained data were analyzed by way of content analysis.


            From the study, the following results are found; 1) The present condition of support for students with behavior problems in inclusive schools revealed a lack of a support system or a specific behavioral management system. There should be an implementation of a student support system and inclusive education management based on the SEAT structure in order to support not just students with behavioral problems but also all students. Students' undesired behaviors are as follows: they do not pay attention in class, they frequently disturb the class, they constantly get out of their seats and cannot sit still, and they do not do their homework on time. The techniques that teachers usually use to handle students’ behaviors are both positive and negative reinforcements; 2) The problems discovered include that the operation of support for students with behavioral problems is still unclear, teachers lack knowledge and skills connected to student support, and there is a lack of coordination with relevant persons; 3) The needs are that schools desire a tangible support approach for students with behavior problems, as well as a clear system and mechanism; and 4) The positive behavior support approach for students with behavior problems includes clear work system or procedures and clear objectives, as well as the knowledge, understanding, and skills required for operation and participation of all sectors.
