The Innovation Development of Leveled Books for Promoting Reading Abilities of Grade 3 Students with Diverse Needs

Abstract
The objectives of the research article were: 1) to study the condition of problems in reading ability of 3rd year elementary students and to serve as a guide for creating leveled books; and 2) to create and verify the quality of innovative Leveled Books for promoting reading ability of the 3rd year elementary students. The research article applied a research and development approach. A target group consisted of 12 students from the 3rd year elementary students of Sammajivasil School under the Private Education Commission Bangkok and 1 Thai teacher. They were selected through purposive sampling according to the specified criteria. The research tools were a data record form used in the study, a storyboard assessment form, a set of 12 leveled books, a manual for using the leveled books series, and reading tests. The data were analyzed by content analysis, mean, standard deviation, reliability discriminator difficulty and efficiency indices E1 / E2. The research results were found as follows: 1) The 3rd year elementary students of Sammajivasil School under the Private Education Commission Bangkok. In small-sized schools and medium-sized schools, the studentss’ national test scores in 2018 are lower than 50%. The problems found that there are students who have problems with reading fluency, having to spell before reading, read word by word, taking time to read, which altogether result in the understanding of contents. This is due to the lack of reading practice at an appropriate speed and lack of reading experience. It can also cause by learning disabilities; therefore, reading should be promoted. 2) From studying the innovation of leveled books to promote reading fluency and reading comprehension, the efficiency (E1 / E2) of all 4 levels of books are as follows: Level 1 = 95.02/87.88; Level 2 = 94.64/92.59; Level 3 = 94.64/94.95; and Level 4 = 98.85/98.65. All 4 levels are higher than the specified criteria of 75/75.
