Nudge Theory and Learner Outcomes according to National Education Standards

Abstract

Nudge theory can be applied to motivate the target group to change its behavior without compulsion. It is used to design activities or policy options for public and private sectors in a wide range of areas including health, the environment, the economy, finance, and transportation policies. However, there are only a small number of academic papers that use nudge theory in education. Therefore, in order to achieve desirable outcomes for the development of the country in terms of education, this study as applies nudge theory to co-determine policies for curricula and instructional management of educational institutions according to national education standards. Literature reviews of theoretical concepts as well as policy applications have been used to design decision alternatives for encouraging learners, parents, and teachers to change behavior or make decisions that result in the positive impacts expected by society. Of course, if educators can understand, appreciate, and design decision-making options that can generate desirable outcomes, this will lead to more efficient development of the country’s education system.
