A Study of Components of Measurement and Evaluation Competencies in the Learning of Teachers in Primary Schools under Basic Education Commission in the Northeastern Region

Abstract

This research article aims at the following: 1) investigating components of measurement and evaluation competencies in learning of teachers in primary schools under basic education commission in the northeastern region; and 2) verifying the components of measurement and evaluation competencies in learning of teachers in primary schools. The study employed a qualitative research method which was divided into two phases: the first phase was document synthesis, in which the obtained data were analyzed by mean and percentage; and the second phase was a sample group of nine experts on learning measurement and evaluation, who were chosen by purposive sampling. A questionnaire on a 5-point Likert scale was used to collect data. Questions were constructed from content analysis in the first phase, and the data were analyzed by mean and percentage.


From the study, the following results were found: 1) There are five components of measurement and evaluation competencies which are (1) knowledge about measurement and evaluation, (2) measurement and evaluation based on reality, (3) the creation and pursuit of tools for measuring learning, (4) learning measurement and evaluation methods, and (5) the use of evaluation results to improve curriculum-based learning management; 2) From verifying the components of measurement and evaluation competencies in learning of teachers in primary schools, four components are found which are (1) knowledge about measurement and evaluation, (2) measurement and evaluation based on reality, (3) the creation and pursuit of tools for measuring learning, and (4) the use of evaluation results to improve curriculum-based learning management.
