Development of Music Instructional Model For Enhancing Executive Function Skills for Mathayomsuksa 3 Students

Abstract

The research article aimed at developing the music instructional model to enhance executive function skills and investigating the results from using music instructional model. The research and development approach was used in the study, which was separated into two phases: 1) Developing the draft instructional model based on the related documents; and 2) Exploring the model validity which consisted of two stages which were (1) Exploring internal validity by experts via group interview. The research instruments were group interview form and assessment form. The data were analyzed using content analysis, mean, and percentage; (2) Exploring external validity by applying the model in action research to examine its feasibility with 30 students of the secondary school from Phimai Wittaya School in Nakhon Ratchasima Province, who were in the second semester of the academic year B.E. 2562, as well as other 5 music teachers. The instruments used were music instructional model and executive function test. The obtained data were analyzed by mean, and percentage. The scores of pretest and posttest were compared with the set criteria.


            From the study, the following results are found: 1) The eight stages of the developed music instructional model are as follows: (1) arousing interest; (2) linking knowledge; (3) modifying knowledge structure; (4) certifying knowledge; (5) broadening one's knowledge; (6) managing the body of knowledge; (7) integrating knowledge; and (8) assessing one's knowledge and understanding. The results of an internal quality review revealed that the instructional model is of high quality. The findings of analyzing external quality using action research revealed that the developed instruction model allows for learning in accordance with the model's objectives. 2) Students with executive function skills score higher on the posttest than on the pretest, with statistical significance at the 0.01 level.
