A Comparison of Strategies and Political Movements in Contemporary Thai Politics

Abstract
The objectives of this research are to compare the demonstration of the People's Democratic Reform Committee (PDRC) in 2013 and of the students in 2020 in 5 dimensions 1) the leader 2) the rally 3) the use of media 4) the fundraising 5) the endurance, by collecting data from political news sources, relevant academic and research documents. The result reveals that 1) the leaders are different in terms of experience in politics 2) the rally was driven by the government’s corruption through online media to form a flash mob 3) the PDRC used 3 media channels which were the television, newspaper, and social media, while the students only used social media 4) in raising the fund, the PDRC opened a fundraising account and collected cash, while the students transferred money through e-banking and 5) the endurance, the PDRC was supported by the army and encountered with the Red Shirts causing a number of casualties throughout the demonstration, while students employed a flash mob tactics with only limited contact with other groups apart from the riot police, therefore no casualties, however, more than 20 people have been prosecuted under a charge of inciting unrest and lese-majesty.
