The Development of English Critical Reading Instructional Supervision Model of Internship Students

Abstract

The purposes of this research were to 1) develop an English critical reading instructional supervision model of internship students and 2) empirically verify the supervision model. This study was a research and development, the sample consisted of the purposive selected, 2 mentor teachers, 2 internship students and 60 secondary students at Nongphok Wittayalai school. The research instruments were content analysis form, interviewing form, observation form, testing form, descriptive journal writing, evaluation form, and focus group items. Statistics used for analyzing the data were percentage, mean, standard deviation, content analysis and t-test dependent.


The results of the research revealed that 1) the supervision model called “NIPIE Model” and comprised of 5 stages- those are: 1.1) Needs analysis (N), 1.2) Input (I), 1.3) Planning (P), 1.4) Implementing supervision process (I), and 1.5) Evaluating (E) The instructional supervision model was verified by five experts at the very high level. 2) The results after the implementation of the NIPIE supervision model revealed that; 2.1)The score of mentor teacher’s supervisory competency in English critical reading instruction after using model was higher than before the implementation, 2.2) The score of internship student’s instructional competency in English critical reading instruction after using model was higher than before the implementation, 2.3) the score of students’ critical reading after learning was significantly higher than learning at the 0.05, 2.4) the critical reading strategies students used are; questioning, Identifying fact/opinion and making an inference respectively, 2.5) the mentor teachers were mutually satisfied with this instructional supervision model as a high level, 2.6) internship students were mutually satisfied with this instructional supervision model as a high level, and 2.7) Most students agreed with the critical reading activities at the highest level.
