The Process of Building Peaceful Relations by the Principles of Peaceful Means in the Integrated Perspective of Doi Chang Community, Chiangrai Province

Abstract

This research article aims to study the context of problems, and the concept of relationship building of Doi Chang Community in Chiangrai Province and to study the process of building peaceful relations according to the principles of peaceful means and to present the process of building peaceful relations based on the principles of peaceful means in the integrated perspective of Doi Chang Community, Chiangrai Province.  It is a field-work qualitative research with the key informants of academic scholars, religious experts, community leaders, and folks of Doi Chang Community totaling 30 persons.  The research is of descriptive analysis.


          The research found: 1. The context of problems related to relationship of the community is divided into 4 issues: 1) Having bias against one another, 2) Adhering to beliefs, 3) Not accepting the actuality, and 4) have conflict opinions.  For relationship building of Doi Chang Community, it is living together, sharing, self-standing, having heart of helping under differences, and paying respect to one another’s cultures, peacefully.  2. The process of building peaceful relations according to the principles of peaceful means with Sāraṇiyadhamma and Buddhist Dialogue: 1) Doing good and paying respect toward one another, 2) Speaking to one another with love and good wish, 3) Having kindness toward one another, 4) Sharing without taking advantages, 5) Following rules and regulations, respecting personal’s liberty and rights, 6) Having thoughts in the same level; and Buddhist Dialogue is the process of having participation emphasizing listening like the knower of suffering, cause of suffering, cessation of suffering, and the path leading to cessation of suffering, and 3. The process of building peaceful relations by the principles of peaceful means in the integrated perspective is under the principle of peaceful coexistence with good relations called DOI CHANG MODEL: Listening, open mindedness, receiving mutual interest, restoring traditional cultures, respecting human value, leading life with mindfulness, conserving environment, and gratitude toward Doi Chang under the framework of Thinking good, doing good and speaking good.
