The Guidelines for the Prevention of Human Trafficking Victims

Abstract

The research article is part of the thesis entitled “The Guidelines of Educational Management for the Prevention of Human Trafficking Victims” consisted of the following objectives: 1) to study the situation of prostitution-based human trafficking in the lower northern region; 2) to analyze the components that encouraged and led children to become the victims of prostitution-based human trafficking; and 3) to design the guidelines for the prevention of prostitution-based human trafficking according to the Dhamma. The study applied a qualitative research method by studying documents, individual in-depth interview, and focus group discussion. The data were collected from children victims of human trafficking, risky children, those who worked with children, and relevant experts, in a total of 53 persons. From the study, the following results are found: 1) The prostitution-based human trafficking in the lower northern region and sexual exploitation in the lower northern region still continue to exist with a higher tendency. The prostitution customers prefer to exploit children sexually. The majority of victims tend to have a younger age, and underprivileged children are more likely to be the victims; 2) The components that encourages and leads children to become the victims of human trafficking consist of (1) there is family violence and separation, as well as a lack of morals, (2) children have an incorrent attitude as they like to imitate the inappropriate behavior, (3) social media, (4) friends and environment, and (5) poverty; 3) The guidelines for the prevention of prostitution-based human trafficking are (1) establishing both mental and spiritual immunity through the cultivation of morality with the use of the Buddhist teachings as a base, together with having faith, hope, stability, and affection for oneself and others, and (2) developing life skills in order to survive in the society.
