Human Development in Buddhist Community in the Present Age

Abstract

The research article consisted of the following objectives: 1) to study the principles of human development in the Buddhist community in the 21st century; 2) to study and analyze human development in the Buddhist community in the 21st century; and 3) to develop principles and methods for human development in the Buddhist community in the 21st century. The study applied a qualitative research approach by way of participatory action and in-depth interviews. The data were collected with key informants by mean of purposive sampling, which consisted of Buddhist leaders, community leaders, and Buddhists who were related to the area of Ban Ang Kan in Moo 4 and Ban Khok Banleng in Moo 10, Buruesi Subdistrict, Mueang District, Surin Province which included abbots, monks, community leaders, president of subdistrict administrative organization, subdistrict headman, village headman, general people, teachers, and youth. The obtained data were analyzed, summarized, and presented by way of descriptive method according to the objectives of the research. From studying the use of Buddhist teachings to develop human in the Buddhist community in the 21st century of Ban Ang Kan in Moo 4 and Ban Khok Banleng in Moo 10, Buruesi Subdistrict, Mueang District, Surin Province, it is found as follows: (1) Human development in the community should focus on establishing a stable and moral career through a development plan and problem analysis, as well as requesting cooperation from all parts in the community to promote career that can generate sufficient income for living while promoting morality as well; (2) To develop humans into quality human resources, volunteering and sense of responsibility should be prioritized, along with putting out a development plan to encourage people in the community to take action and form a network of collaboration; and (3) The activity arrangement for community development must be activity in which the majority of the community members may engage, so that they can comprehend and identify the community problems, leading to the formulation of guidelines to solve problems in the same direction.
