Individual Aptitude Factors Related to Participation of Village Health Volunteers Operating Thailand Healthy Lifestyle Strategic Plan, year 2011-2020, At Ministry of Public Health, Kaeng Khoi Health Promoting Hospital, Saraburi Province

Abstract

The research article aimed at studying the personal competency factors related to the participation of village health volunteers in implementing Thailand healthy lifestyle strategy of year 2011 – 2020 by the Ministry of Public Health. A sample group consisted of 328 villager health volunteers from 14 Tambol health promoting hospitals in Kaeng Khoi District, Saraburi Province, which were obtained by way of stratified random sampling. The study applied mixed-methods research: 1) a quantitative method in which the data were collected by using a questionnaire; and 2) a qualitative method in which the data were collected by way of an in-depth interview. The statistics used for data analysis were frequency, percentage, mean, standard deviation (S.D.), and Pearson’s product moment correlation coefficient. From the study, the following results are found: 1) The personal competency factors of village health volunteers in all 4 aspects are at a high level, in which the order from the highest to the lowest is as follows: on motivation (x ̅ = 4.34), on attitude (x ̅ = 4.30), on knowledge (x ̅ = 4.22), and on values (x ̅ = 4.18), respectively. 2) The level of participation of village health volunteers in all 4 aspects are at a high level, in which the order from the highest to the lowest is as follows: on participation in rewards (x ̅ = 4.29) and followed by environment (x ̅ = 4.26) While both personal inner factors and driving factors from others have equal mean (x ̅ = 4.22). 3)The personal competency factors which are knowledge, attitude, values, and motivation have positive correlation with the participation of village health volunteers with a statistical significance at 0.01 level.
