Development of English – Language Teaching techniques to Improve Prathomsuksa 6 Students English Language Ordinary National Education Test (O-NET) Results in Bangkok Metropolitan Primary Education Schools

Abstract

The purposes of this research were to study the developing way in techniques of English language learning management in order to improve the Ordinary National Educational Test (O-NET) that is a subject of English for students of Prathom 6, primary schools under Bangkok Metropolitan. This research was the mixed methods which was collected data. The instruments were a focus group, a recording form, an interview form, a teaching observation form and questionnaires. The statistics used to analyze, were quantitative data to be frequency, percentage, means and standard deviation, exploratory factor analysis, t-test and ANOVA. Qualitative data were synthesized and presented by descriptive. The findings were as follows: 1. Most of the teachers used learning management techniques focusing on child-centeredness. The variables obtained from factor loading were .563 – .768, with the Eigen Value of 19.282 and ANOVA Value of 64.273% from all of the 13 variables. 2. Techniques Prathom 6 English language teachers used in classrooms emphasized different types of practice which let learners learn efficiently according to learning goals and objectives or learning standards and indicators of each school curriculum. 3. Learning management techniques that Prathom 6 English language teachers under Bangkok Metropolitan used to improve learners’ English achievement were vocabulary memorization, learning of English grammar, revision and continuous tutorials about doing previous O-NET tests, both in and outside the classrooms.
